42. assembly，conference，congress，gathering 都有“聚會，會議” 的意思。

　　assembly ：“聚會” 不可數(shù);“會議” 可數(shù)，較為正式，專指多人的集會或按計劃為某一目標而召開的會議，以進行商議，集體行動或宗教活動。

　　In some countries the right of assemble in public is not allowed for everybody. 在某些國家，不是每個人都有參加公開集會的權利。

　　conference：“會議、討論會、協(xié)商會”，指為了研究專門問題交換觀點、意見而召開的專業(yè)性集會或定期的會議。詞組：at conference with sb.與其他人商談。

　　The conference to discuss the country's economic problem was summoned by the federal government. “聯(lián)邦政府召開了討論國家經(jīng)濟問題的會議?！?/P>

　　congress：“代表大會、國會、議會”，指正式的大規(guī)模會議，其重要代表參加討論并做出決策的會議。還常指正式的立法或評議機構，如：

　　The United States Congress ( 美國國會)

　　Party congresses at all levels are held by party committees at their respective levels. 黨的各級代表大會由各級黨的委員會召開。

　　gathering：“聚會、集會”，指兩人以上的集會，尤其指一些人非正式或無組織地聚集在一起進行的集體活動。

　　I'm glad to tell all of you that the principal will address at school gathering this afternoon.我很高興地告訴大家，校長將在下午的學校集會上給大家講話。
